Modern Power Engineering must fulfill three essential criteria : high efficiency of energy conservation, economy and environmental compatibility for achieving an increase in  cost - effective of conversion of thermal energy into electrical energy and simultaneous reduction in the hazardous emissions. The advanced conversion techniques and high value materials must be used for manufacturing the thermal – stressed components of power plants (steam generators and steam turbines for steam power plants, combustion chamber and gas turbines for gas turbine plants). This is associated with considerable additional overheads. The modern burners, firing plants and combustion chambers permit drastic reduction in environmental burdening gaseous emissions of hazardous materials.

 In this book all the essential physical and technical aspects of environmental preserving power engineering are analysed in detail. Status of technology as well as problems yet to be solved for the development of new technologies with respect to the economic aspects are also discussed.

 Besides the conventional and newly developed concepts of power engineering which are based on utilization of fossil energy carriers, utilization of regenerative energy sources for power generation as well as the energy savings as an energy source are also dealt with.

 For all the introduced techniques the heat and flow fundamentals are described. Moreover practically in all cases the design principles are given. Numerous examples illustrate clearly the procedure for planning of power plants. The required material properties and thermodynamic parameters are specified in tabular and graphic form in the appendix.
